2012 was a real vigneron's year with success being won or lost in the vineyard rather than the winery. A slow wet start to they season created fungal disease issues galore requiring daily vineyard inspections and very regular micro-treatments. Intense heat followed which shut the vines down for much of the summer. September rain and cooler nights rescued the harvest providing a small window for harvesting.
Fruit yields were generally low but with successful hands-on vineyard strategies deployed, the Cabernet Franc quality was very good. The low yield gave a high concentration of fresh fruit and a wine of deeper than average CabFranc crimson colour. Cabernet Franc again proved itself to be a great grape varietal under these challenging conditions.
The taste is smooth, with gentle tannins and beautiful integrated oak complexity. The spicy flavour lingers gently but long on the palate. An excellent aperitif or food wine to serve with roast meat, stronger fish dishes, pasta and goats cheese.
ABV 13.5%
David's comments
"2012 is a great varietal Bordeaux Cabernet Franc driven by the low yield and concentration of fruit, colour and fresh fruit taste. Given the vintage climatic conditions, this B1ockOne wine was an incredible result."
