This vertical tasting carton of six bottles is a great way to witness the development of the Paradise Rescued Merlot CabFranc BlockTwo brand from tentative first production of just a couple of hundred bottles to now mainstream supply. Merlot is the main grape varietal used in producing these wines with up to 75% being used in a Bordeaux Right Bank blend with Cabernet Franc. BlockTwo Merlot CabFranc blend started out as a "commercial accident" and continues to steadily improve into a high class wine product with every vintage. .
In January 2011, after being so-called "cutting to death", the owners of Paradise Rescued were offered the opportunity to acquire the run down "old Merlot" vineyard block to the west of the family property. The old Merlot vines were lovingly recovered by hand and produced a first ever harvest for Paradise Rescued in 2012. The remainder of the block was cleared, soil fallowed and regenerated before replanting in 2014 with young Merlot vines. This full 4/10th hectare block came into full production in 2018.
Each carton contains:
2 bottles of each BlockTwo MerlotCabFranc vintages 2012 and 2015
1 bottle of each BlockTwo Merlot CabFranc vintage 2014 and 2016
"The Phoenix story of the recovery of the old block vine Merlot has been a remarkable achievement. The handcrafted love and care that has restored and rebuilt the Merlot vineyard is reflected in the quality of our BlockTwo Bordeaux blend wines."
